Norwegian Oceanographers visit Aanderaa nographers to discuss the ronne ice shelf expedition

A team of Norwegian Oceanographers recently visited Aanderaa Data Instruments Norwegian to discuss the ronne ice shelf expedition and view the new In-line DCS which Svein Østerhus at Uni Research is excited to be the first to use on his coming expedition to the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf in Antarctica.

During the International Polar Year (IPY) Aanderaa Data Instruments was part of the largest Norwegian IPY project BIAC led by Tor Gammelsrød (University of Bergen, UiB) and Svein Østerhus (Uni Research).  As part of the ronne ice shelf expedition project, Aanderaa Data Instruments and Østerhus collaborated to develop measurement platforms for long-term observations of ocean climate in polar areas. The result was the measuring buoy named SmartSub which became the only marketable product to come out of the NOK 300 million that the Norwegian Research Council (Norsk forskingsråd) spent on the IPY program.

The measurement technology of the SmartSub was used to develop the new In-line Doppler Current Sensor hub. It is a robust and compact solution available for ocean current and other parameters measurement at different levels in the water column, in string systems, Hyd/Met solutions, winch operated systems and berth/docking stations.

We appreciate the excellent collaboration between Aanderaa, a Xylem brand and the research community in Bergen as we work together to solve the world's most challenging issues related to water and the environment.
